Silverdale finally has a business improvement district (BID)!

After a month-long ballot, the majority of commercial and business owners in the mapped Silverdale area have supported the establishment of the BID.

In the run-up to March, the Silverdale Business Association connected with 1,200 businesses in the BID-mapped area and the hard work definitely paid off.

During the voting, the priorities identified by local businesses are:

• Security and crime prevention: business owners want to operate their businesses in a safe and secure environment;

• Improved connectivity: providing regular opportunities for business owners to connect, business-to-business, through monthly, face-to-face networking and online events to gain awareness of and do business with each other;

• Powerful marketing and promotion: encouraging the growth of Silverdale businesses by marketing the town as a destination of choice, rather than just a destination by default. 

“We’ve got it all here in Silverdale,” says Theo Simeonidis, chair of the Silverdale Business Association.

• Lastly, advocacy: the spectacular growth of Silverdale continues to generate major problems relating to infrastructure issues, connectedness between different parts of Silverdale, and other policy issues that impact unfairly on local businesses. 

“We will take a strong advocacy role in lobbying key stakeholders such as Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, NZ Transport Agency, Hibiscus and Bays Local Board and others,” says Theo.

“We are totally for all Silverdale businesses", says Theo.

He advises that with the BID funding available, the association will be vigorously advancing and promoting the interests of all the Silverdale business precincts: Silverdale Entrance, Silverdale Industrial, Silverdale Central, Silverdale Village, Highgate and Millwater.
