Those visiting Stanmore Bay Beach will get a glimpse of the new steel feature on the beach.
A simple stainless steel phone cradle was installed by the Auckland Council overlooking Stanmore Bay Beach.
This CoastSnap station was erected for people to take photos of the ever-changing coastline from the same spot.
Using the instructional sign, a person is encouraged to put their phone in the steel cradle, take a photo and then share it on the CoastSnap App (which you have to download) using the QR code and hashtag unique to the Stanmore Bay location.
This collection of community-led images will provide a record of the coastline as it evolves and changes.
The technology behind CoastSnap is then capable of creating time-lapse videos and tracking the precise changes in the position of the coastline over time.
This location was decided on as there is high foot traffic and a clear view of the coastline.
It is the second CoastSnap station to be erected in Auckland, the other station is on Muriwai Beach.
