In a somber turn of events this afternoon, local authorities have confirmed the unfortunate demise of an individual in a water-related incident off the north end of Omaha Beach.

Promptly responding to a distress call received just before 3 pm, the police rushed to Ida Way, Omaha, where Surf Life Saving New Zealand had successfully brought the affected person ashore.

Despite diligent efforts from emergency services to resuscitate the victim, regrettably, their life could not be saved.

During this trying period, the police, along with victim support, are providing assistance to the grieving family, offering condolences to all those affected by this heartbreaking incident.

The case is now under official review and will be forwarded to the Coroner for further investigation.
