Two Hibisicus Coast construction sites hit brick wallsEarthworks stopped at Red Beach and Stanmore Bay construction sites.

Two construction sites on the Hibiscus Coast have hit brick walls after earthworks got underway, then abruptly stopped.

Now both sites are fenced with ‘for sale’ signs on them.

The sites are in different areas - Red Beach and Stanmore Bay - and have different developers.

Twenty-one two-storey townhouses were due to be built on Red Beach Road and eight houses on Albatross Road.

Resource consent was given in September. Earthworks got underway, then were stopped.

The developer, Red Beach 1, cited “headwinds in the building industry” as the reasons for the halt.

Those who pre-purchased units off the plans for Red Beach have been notified and their deposits returned.

The 4,645 square meter site is being marketed by Bayley’s for $9 million.

At the site in Stanmore Bay, resource consent was granted to build 59 houses at 20 Melia Place and 43A Vipond Road, in June.

Again, earthworks started then were also halted.

This 1.826ha site was to have been developed by Melia Development and was put on the market just before Christmas.

Once again, the reason given was “headwinds in the building industry.”

This site is being sold by Ray White.

Tenders for this site are due in by Wednesday 8 February, unless it's sold prior.
