Uber Hires Contractors For AI TasksUber is venturing into the artificial intelligence (AI) market with the launch of a new division, Scaled Solutions, aimed at handling data annotation tasks essential for AI development.
The division will focus on "large-scale annotation tasks" to support Uber’s own operations across ride-share, food delivery, and freight transport.
In addition, Uber plans to outsource its contractors to external companies, including Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, and Aurora, a self-driving vehicle company.
Scaled Solutions contractors will work as “analysts, testers, and independent data operators,” according to Uber.
The company is recruiting globally, with hiring efforts targeting candidates in the United States, Canada, and India.
To widen its talent pool, Uber is also seeking contractors in Poland and Nicaragua, where workers will be compensated on a per-task basis.
This move positions Uber within a growing sector driven by increasing demand for AI data labelling services.
The field has experienced rapid growth alongside the rise of AI technologies.
For example, Scale AI, a prominent data labelling company, recently raised $1 billion in funding, reaching a valuation of $13.8 billion.
Uber’s expansion into this market aligns with its broader strategy to diversify revenue streams beyond its core services.
As AI adoption accelerates, Scaled Solutions represents an opportunity for Uber to tap into a sector with significant growth potential while supporting its internal operations and external partnerships.
