UK National Charged in Massive Meth Bust Police Raid Uncovers Meth Worth Millions

A major methamphetamine importation operation was thwarted this week.

Police intercepted a suspicious package at a North Shore address on Monday, uncovering over three kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside.

Waitematā East CIB quickly launched an investigation, with acting Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Bartlett leading the effort.

“On further inspection, the parcel was stuffed full of a white substance—it was more than three kilograms of methamphetamine,” Bartlett stated.

The investigation gained momentum when detectives noticed a man approaching the address, leading to a vehicle of interest being tracked on Wednesday.

Officers executed a traffic stop on the Northern Motorway near Takapuna, arresting the driver, a 35-year-old UK national.

A subsequent search of the man’s hotel room in Auckland's CBD revealed another three kilograms of methamphetamine, split into three parcels.

Evidence of previous importations was also found in the room.

The man now faces serious charges in the North Shore District Court for importing methamphetamine and possession for supply.

Police are opposing his bail as investigations continue.

“This operation has prevented approximately 60,000 doses of misery from reaching our communities,” Bartlett added.

“Police will continue to dismantle these importation operations to prevent further harm on families.”
