Vector crews continue to work around the clock to restore power for Aucklanders as quickly as they safely can.
As of yesterday morning, there were 16,000 families and businesses without power across the region – this is down from 25,000 reported on Wednesday.
Unlike previous storms, which typically pass through within ten hours, this cyclone lasted for 60 hours, and came on top of major flooding.
This led to an unprecedented level of damage to the electricity network, with many areas cut off or difficult to reach.
Blocked roads, caused by fallen trees and slips, continue to be a key challenge and are preventing crews from accessing sites.
Vector is working closely with authorities to get access to these areas as soon as possible.
Yesterday, they sent a helicopter up to assess the damage in those hard-to-reach areas.
Their teams are currently reviewing the footage and will share more information about this when they can.
Vector reminds people that although it’s forecast to be another sunny day, teams are only just understanding and working through the full extent of the damage and being able to plan accordingly to make restoration and repairs for communities.
Vector is advising customers still without power – they understand your frustration and how tiring it is to have no power, and will communicate with you as soon as they have information about the timeframes.
