In an update from the NZ Transport Agency, maintenance work is slated for State Highway 1 (SH1), affecting travel routes on the Hibiscus Coast.
Starting Sunday, November 19, and continuing through Thursday, November 23, maintenance activities will result in night closures from 9 pm to 5 am, weather permitting.
The Silverdale interchange overbridge above SH1 will undergo a complete closure in both directions during this period.
For those travelling eastbound towards Hibiscus Coast Road, the suggested detour directs drivers via SH1 northbound on-ramp, with a turnaround at Wainui Road to rejoin SH1 southbound, allowing an exit at the Silverdale interchange.
Westbound travellers headed to Dairy Flat Highway are advised to follow the designated detour via East Coast Road and Wilks Road.
On Thursday, November 23, the focus shifts to the Oteha Valley Road to Silverdale interchange.
Anticipate a full northbound closure, including the closure of key ramps such as the Oteha Valley Road northbound on-ramp, Silverdale northbound off-ramp, and the BP Service Station Dairy Flat off-ramp and on-ramp (no public access).
Clear signposted detours will guide commuters through necessary route adjustments.
Travellers are urged to follow the recommended detour via Oteha Valley Road and Dairy Flat Highway.
It's important to note that the Silverdale interchange (local road) will also experience a temporary closure during this phase of the maintenance.
A visual representation of the detour routes is available on the provided map.
Keep an eye out for updates, as the project's progress is weather-dependent, and any necessary additional work will be carried out on the next available night.
As always, patience and adherence to the designated detours will contribute to the successful implementation of these enhancements, ensuring a smoother and safer journey for all.
