Auckland Transport (AT) has officially appointed Dean Kimpton as its Chief Executive, following his tenure under an 18-month contract.
Kimpton, who joined AT in April 2023, has been pivotal in reshaping the organisation to enhance its service to Aucklanders.
AT Board Chair Richard Leggat expressed confidence in Kimpton’s continued leadership.
“Dean has successfully redesigned our organisational structure to improve efficiency and service quality. While we still have work to do to build trust with Aucklanders, the Board is confident he is the right person to lead these efforts.”
Under Kimpton’s direction, AT has achieved significant milestones in the year ending June 30, 2024.
The organisation met or exceeded 18 out of 19 Statement of Intent targets and executed its largest capital programme to date.
Notable achievements include the introduction of bus boosters, extensive road repairs, and the addition of hundreds of public transport trips.
Leggat highlighted that the Board has set Kimpton more ambitious targets for his ongoing term.
These goals align with Auckland Mayor’s priorities, focusing on reducing congestion, improving journey times, and bolstering public trust in AT.
Kimpton will receive an annual salary of $620,000, with potential bonuses based on performance against key indicators outlined in AT’s business plan.
Kimpton brings extensive experience to the role, having previously held positions such as Chief Operating Officer for Auckland Council and Managing Director for AECOM NZ.
His governance experience includes roles with the NZ Upgrade Programme, Eastern Busway Alliance, and Auckland Council’s response to the America’s Cup 36th defence.
Kimpton resides on the North Shore with his family.
