The Coalition Government is taking steps to reduce spending on road cones and temporary traffic management (TTM) while maintaining the safety of workers and road users, according to Transport Minister Simeon Brown.
The government is introducing a risk-based approach to TTM, which will decrease the number of road cones on roads.
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) will be required to publicly report on TTM expenditure, and independent members will be appointed to the Road Efficiency Group to manage the reduction in TTM expenditure.
The government aims to balance safety with cost efficiency and minimise inconvenience to motorists.
