Mark your calendars, Coasties: on Thursday 4 December 2025, IKEA will finally open its doors at Sylvia Park.
The massive 34,000m² store is now proudly wearing its bright yellow wordmark, signalling the end of years of anticipation.
Inside, shoppers will find 7,500 products, styled showrooms to spark ideas, and a self-serve warehouse full of flatpacks ready to load into the car.
If you’d rather not brave the crowds, IKEA is also offering online shopping, Click & Collect, and 29 Pick Up Points across the country.
Food is a big part of the experience too.
The 426-seat Swedish Restaurant will serve up famous meatballs, salmon dishes and plant-based options, while the Bistro has hotdogs, cinnamon scrolls and frozen treats to take home.
For locals driving down from the Hibiscus Coast, new traffic lights, extra lanes and even a covered walkway have been built to keep things moving.
Public transport is strongly encouraged during the opening rush.
So what’s in it for us?
A new weekend destination, fresh ideas for our homes, and a chance to finally taste those legendary Swedish meatballs without leaving Auckland.
