New App Simplifies Visitor ID ChecksNZ Verify App makes verifying international IDs easy.

The government has launched the NZ Verify App, aiming to simplify identity verification for international visitors.

Digitising Government Minister Judith Collins and Tourism Minister Louise Upston introduced the app, which will initially focus on verifying mobile drivers’ licences from Queensland and several US states.

Visitors can now check into hotels and rent cars with just their phones, without needing to carry physical ID.

The app will also allow businesses to verify age and identity while keeping other personal details private, a step that strengthens privacy and safety for users.

“Anything that makes it easier for tourists to visit New Zealand is always welcome,” says Ms Upston.

She highlights the positive economic impacts of this initiative, encouraging businesses to adopt the app to help streamline visitor experiences.

The app will continue to expand, eventually supporting more types of international credentials.

Currently, it’s available for download on the New Zealand Apple Store, with a Google Play version coming soon.
