Penlink embarks on major construction, transforming local travelMain construction begins.

The road ahead for the Hibiscus Coast is set to undergo a transformative shift as the Penlink project gears up for its main construction phase.

This ambitious endeavour entails the construction of a brand-new seven-kilometre highway, bridging the gap between Whangaparaoa Road and State Highway 1.

The objective is to forge a more robust and efficient network that expedites journeys for all.

October 2023 holds special significance for this venture, as it marks the initiation of the main construction activities.

This earthworks season is poised to witness a staggering 400,000 cubic metres of earth being relocated, all the while meticulously managing erosion and sediment controls.

In the midst of this bustling activity, a temporary platform is taking shape on the western bank of the Weiti River, paving the way for the construction of the vital Weiti Bridge.

However, progress echoes with noise, resonating on both sides of the river.

This symphony of development may be more pronounced for neighbours on the Whangaparaoa side, and the construction crew thanks them for their patience and understanding.

Looking ahead, the project steers towards East Coast Road, where October marks the advent of a new earthworks season.

Work will soon commence on the first of six bridges lining the alignment.

Brace for lower speed limits and a heightened level crossing featuring traffic lights, ensuring safe passage for construction vehicles.

These lights will maintain their emerald hue until a construction vehicle necessitates a crossing, emphasising the need for responsible driving under evolving circumstances.

Please drive according to the conditions. Consider the safety of the workers and adhere to the temporary speed limits.
