Protest Moves from Bridge to CityStrong winds shift march to central Auckland.

Today's planned protest across the Auckland Harbour Bridge will no longer go ahead, with organisers shifting the march into the city centre.

Inspector Stefan Sagar, Relieving Waitematā District Commander, said Police advised organisers this afternoon that forecast winds made the bridge unsafe.

“Our position was that this protest activity should not take place given the risks posed to anyone who was to participate,” he said. Organisers agreed and will now gather between Aotea Square and Victoria Park.

A Police operation will still monitor the event.

Traffic disruption is expected in the CBD and around Victoria Park, but no special traffic management is now required on the Harbour Bridge.

NZ Transport Agency confirmed the bridge will remain open to vehicles.

Forecast gusts of 75–85km/h, with possible peaks of 90km/h early afternoon, may still trigger reduced speed limits or lane closures.

Full bridge closures could occur briefly if gusts hit 90km/h.

Motorists are urged to drive to conditions and follow electronic motorway signs.

High winds may also affect ferries and buses using the bridge.

For Hibiscus Coast locals who often head south on weekends, the change means no major motorway disruption beyond the usual Saturday congestion, though anyone planning a trip into the city should allow extra time.
