A recent spate of violent incidents at bus stops and transport hubs has sparked concern among the community, prompting calls for increased vigilance and action.
In a tragic incident last Thursday, a 16-year-old boy was fatally attacked in central Dunedin.
A 13-year-old teenager has been arrested in connection with the incident.
This follows another alleged murder at the Albany bus station in September 2023 and five reported incidents at Auckland bus stops this year.
The Hibiscus Coast Bus Station, a hub for school students, has also witnessed several incidents involving teenagers last year.
The safety of school students, easily identifiable in their uniforms, has become a particular worry for parents.
Bus drivers have also faced harassment.
Coasties are urged to report any potential issues or incidents to the police immediately, enabling them to take prompt action.
By working together, we can ensure the safety of our neighbours and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
