State Highway 1 northbound is closed between Silverdale and Orewa after a truck fire.

NZTA says the motorway is shut while the incident is dealt with.

Drivers are being told to follow detours or delay their journey.

Light vehicles are being directed along Hibiscus Coast Highway, then left onto West Hoe Road and right onto Grand Drive before rejoining SH1 at the Orewa interchange.

Heavy vehicles must take the Silverdale off-ramp, continue north on Hibiscus Coast Highway, then rejoin SH1 north of Warkworth.

Motorists travelling north will need to allow extra time or use the detour.
