Snowplanet to reopen soonThe major roof replacements at Snowplanet in Silverdale, with a Monday, April 17, reopening date.

Snow will once again fall in Silverdale as Snowplanet plans to reopen.

The beloved snow-covered adventure centre is planning to reopen on Monday, 17th April - but management said there are talks to open earlier than that, so watch this space!

The major works started on 31st October 2022 for roof replacement and ongoing building maintenance.

The repairs took a knock when Cyclone Gabrielle delayed the work too.

One of the major repairs was replacing the entire roof section of the 200mx40m snow dome.

A giant crane was used to lift and replace the roofing panels and access to the site was done using a temporary road next to Snowplanet.

The snow inside the dome is being replaced - and waiting to be enjoyed by snow lovers of all ages this winter season.

The repairs took place in the quieter time of the year as many Coasties swapped their snow gear for togs and headed for the beaches.

Now that winter is approaching, Coasties can once again enjoy their favourite snow-covered planet.

Snowplanet is the first indoor snow facility in New Zealand.

The snow dome is built on the side of the hill, between SH1 and East Coast Road.

It features 50 centimetres of real snow, three tows, a terrain park for freestyle skiers and snowboarders and a separate learners slope.

It has thrilling snow activities like snow slides, a snow play area, and a snow dance floor.
