Sunflour Café was hit by a suspected deliberate fire.

Emergency services were alerted about 11.20 pm, with Fire and Emergency crews from Silverdale, East Coast Bays, and other stations attending.

No injuries were reported and the extent of the damage hadn’t been confirmed at the time of writing.

This is the third incident affecting a dining spot in Orewa this year, and locals are calling for more security and patrols to protect hospitality and neighbouring businesses across the Hibiscus Coast.

The café’s owners thanked customers and the wider community on social media this morning for their overwhelming support, saying they’ll keep working and reopen as quickly as possible.

Police inquiries are ongoing to determine what happened.
