Coming up this Saturday is the Orewa Repair Cafe, from 11 am to 2 pm.
The Cafe will be on 216 Hibiscus Coast Highway, at the Hibiscus Coast Community House.
Bring in your broken or damaged items, and local volunteers will fix them for you at no charge.
The Repair Cafe is a monthly event on the first Saturday of each month.
The event caters to various goods, such as small furniture, toys, and clothing.
There are also volunteers capable of repairing electronics, laptops, and small appliances (no microwaves).
This is one of many events in the Eco Event Calendar of Hibiscus Coast Zero Waste [HCZW].
The community organisation works to encourage sustainable consumption, habits and lifestyle.
Koha (donations) are welcome, as they fund future repair cafes.
HCZW also offers various other events to engage and educate the community on issues surrounding climate change.
This includes items such as the Carbon Sinking School Programme, where a food scrap collection and composting system are operated and taken care of by intermediate and high schools.
There are many more events and opportunities for the community to get involved and work towards a shared interest in sustainable living.
