Migration Gain Drops In 2025Arrivals ease as departures edge up.

New Zealand’s net migration gain fell to 14,200 in 2025, according to provisional estimates from Stats NZ.


The total was down on 2024, driven by fewer migrant arrivals while departures edged up to a provisional calendar-year record.


Net migration of non-New Zealand citizens also eased.


New Zealand citizens continued to record a net migration loss, with 61 percent of departures heading to Australia.


On the Hibiscus Coast, the estimated population reached 67,800 as of June 30 2025.


That compares with 48,600 in 2015 and 37,100 in 2005.
