New speed camera signs to improve safetyIncreased awareness for road users

A new initiative aims to improve road safety by introducing speed camera signs for fixed speed cameras.

Transport Minister Simeon Brown welcomes this move, designed to encourage drivers to check their speeds and avoid fines.

The signs, to be rolled out nationwide by June 2025, target high-risk areas.

"Speed cameras should be about improving safety, not raising revenue," Brown said.

"By providing a fair warning, we can avoid tragic consequences and focus on safety outcomes, not fleecing drivers' pockets."

This move follows a 2019 announcement that failed to deliver on its promise.

The new signs aim to deter drivers from breaking the law and reduce fatal road crashes, with a focus on alcohol and drugs as contributing factors.
